Post by Gregory "Lars" Gunnerson

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) chose to honor Paul M. Bevilaqua by presenting him with the 2017 Daniel Guggenheim Medal. The Daniel Guggenheim Medal was established in 1929 for the purpose of honoring persons who make notable achievements in the advancement of aeronautics. The Medal is jointly sponsored by the AIAA, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and American Helicopter Society (AHS). The medal is considered to be one of the greatest honors that can be presented for a lifetime of work in aeronautics.

Paul Bevilaqua is an aeronautics engineer at Lockheed Martin in California. Bevilaqua has spent much of the last four decades working on the development of Vertical and/or Short Take-Off and Landing (V/STOL) aircraft, and in 1990, he invented the lift fan for the Joint Strike Fighter F-35B along with fellow Skunk Works engineer Paul Shumpert.

Some of Mr. Bevilaqua’s patents may be viewed at the following links U.S. Patent No. 4,519,990; U.S. Patent No. 4,645,140; U.S. Patent No. 5,209,428; U.S. Patent No. 6,641,082 and U.S. Patent No. 6729575.

Congratulations to Inventor Paul Bevilaqua for this fantastic achievement!
