My Invention Drawing ContestAugust 10, 2005

Kids come up with some of the most creative ideas. And ideas put into action become inventions. Earmuffs were invented by teenager, Chester Greenwood. Louis Braille was only 15 when he developed his reading system for the blind. Iowa’s own George Nissen was 16 when he came up with the idea for a trampoline. With this kind of track record, the law firm of McKee, Voorhees & Sease has joined with the Science Center of Iowa to sponsor the ‘My Invention’ drawing contest which will recognize four innovative youth with year-long membership passes to SCI.’We are very excited about the New Science Center of Iowa, and assisted in the development of its Iowa Technology Showcase exhibit,’ explains MVS managing partner Heidi S. Nebel. ‘Since our attorneys work with scientists and engineers, we know that the talents of Iowa inventors are boundless. We’re hoping to encourage and inspire the next generation to develop an interest in science and inventions.’From Aug. 15 to Oct. 14, children ranging in age from 5 to 18 are being given the opportunity to sketch out their big idea and tell a bit about the concept. A total of four winners (one in each defined age range) will be selected by a panel of judges. Winners will receive a one-year membership to SCI courtesy of McKee, Voorhees & Sease and the winning entries also will be the featured artwork for the law firm’s holiday greeting cards. Entry forms are available at SCI and also online at and Completed forms can be dropped off at SCI or mailed to McKee, Voorhees & Sease, 801 Grand Ave., Suite 3200, Des Moines, IA 50309.
