MVS Funds the Future of IP LawDecember 14, 2004

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but without a good attorney many inventions and discoveries likely wouldn’t see the light of day. In an effort to strengthen the ranks of attorneys who specialize in intellectual property law (patents, trademarks, copyright, etc.), McKee, Voorhees & Sease has donated $100,000 to fund a scholarship for University of Iowa College of Law students who have a specific interest in the field where science and technology meet the legal system. On Wednesday, Nov. 10, University of Iowa College of Law Dean Carolyn Jones and Director of Development Peter Wilch visited with MVS partners Bruce McKee and Heidi Nebel to accept the scholarship donation. ‘Our firm has practiced exclusively in the area of intellectual property for more than 80 years. With the technological landscape quickly expanding in all areas – pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering, biotechnology…we foresee a need to encourage law students who are interested in the field of intellectual property, and offer them the support with the hopes that they will choose to stay in the Midwest, particularly Iowa’, said Heidi Nebel.Currently, the Des Moines-based firm features 17 attorneys who specialize in patent prosecution, trademark registration, intellectual property litigation and so on. Additionally, MVS is planning to make similar donations to law colleges at Drake University and Creighton University.
