Kirk Hartung LEGUS Presidency ReviewJune 12, 2019

MVS Intellectual Property Attorney, Member, and Chair of the Mechanical Patent practice group, Kirk M. Hartung, is traveling to Hong Kong for the 24th International Network of Law Firms (LEGUS) Annual Meeting on June 20-22, 2019. Kirk has been Chair of the LEGUS advisory board for the past two years, and will be passing the gavel to Campbell Clark, an attorney at Blackadders, a law firm in Dundee, Scotland. Kirk will continue to participate on the Advisory Board as past Chair.

The Hong Kong meeting includes presentations on various topics. The discussions will focus on doing business in Asia, health and wellness for lawyers and staff, unique law firm projects and strategies, law firm trends, and associate training.

The LEGUS members meet twice each year to provide education and networking opportunities. The educational time focuses on law firm management, technology, marketing, training, strategic planning, and other issues that improve firm operations and client service, which apply to law firms from around the world.

LEGUS meetings also provide opportunities to build relationships, trust, and friendships among lawyers, which leads to client referrals among the LEGUS member firms, so that we can better serve our clients for legal work in other jurisdictions and for matters beyond the intellectual property expertise of MVS.

During Kirk’s two years as Advisory Board chair, LEGUS has added new members in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has attended four meetings for LEGUS in the U.S. and in Europe, plus two executive planning meetings, went on a successful recruitment trip, and continues to contact potential new firms to join LEGUS. Kirk also has been a speaker and moderator at the LEGUS educational meetings and will be doing so again at the Hong Kong meeting. The fall meeting will be in Charleston, South Carolina, and the 2020 annual meeting will be in London. LEGUS has more than 75 law firms in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
