House Republican leadership expresses concerns about Patent Reform Act of 2007

August 31, 2007
Post by Blog Staff

In further evidence that the Patent Reform Act of 2007 (S. 1145, H.R. 1908) may be in for a tough road, the House Republican leadership (Republican Leader Boehner and Republican Whip Blunt) has sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi expressing concerns about the Act. Among the provisions that cause the concern are enhanced rulemaking authority for the USPTO , damages apportionment, and inequitable conduct.

The letter also urges that the Act not be placed on the fast track to passage once Congress returns to session Tuesday, but instead that the House seek "consensus so that all U.S. companies benefit from reforming the patent system rather than advautaging one business model over another."

Read the full letter here.

Dennis Crouch at Patently-O has declared the Patent Reform Act of 2007 dead.
