Nov 28, 2006
The Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) today announced the names of eight newly-elected industry leaders to its Board of Directors. The executives share a strong commitment to develop Iowa’s information technology (IT) sector as an engine for broad-based economic prosperity. The newly appointed board members are:
  • John-Paul Besong, Senior Vice President of e-Business and Lean Electronics - Rockwell Collins.
  • Doug Gumm, Vice President of Information Technology - FBL Financial Group.
  • Atul Gupta, President and CEO - Advanced Technologies Group.
  • Irving Hahn, Executive Vice President - QCI.
  • Scott Johnson, Attorney - McKee Voorhees & Sease P.L.C.
  • Sheldon Ohringer, CEO - Caleris.
  • Art Peters, Vice President of Information Technology - ACT.
  • Gary Scholten, Senior Vice President and CIO - Principal Financial Group.

“We are thrilled to welcome these extraordinary leaders to TAI’s Board,” said Leann Jacobson, president of TAI. “Their commitment to the Technology Association’s success in its drive to grow Iowa’s IT sector reflects the importance of the mission at hand.”

The newly appointed leaders will join existing board members to oversee implementation of TAI’s strategic priorities. Specifically, those priorities are to enhance access to workforce and develop future talent; to provide connectivity to business, capital, academic, and government resources; and to promote a business climate that will advance industry growth.

“With the addition of these thought-leaders, TAI is now poised to tackle critical challenges faced by the industry,” said Wayne Hansen, chairman of TAI’s Board of Directors and president of CI3. “TAI’s success will result in a thriving IT sector that powers Iowa’s technology-based economy and long-term economic prosperity.”

As a high-wage, high-growth industry, Iowa’s tech sector fuels overall economic vitality by driving competitiveness, productivity and innovation within other key industry sectors – such as insurance, finance, agriculture, medicine, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.

TAI is a member-based association driving the success of the tech industry through a network of leadership, connections and promotion. It formed in 1997 through the joint efforts of business leaders, the Iowa Department of Economic Development and the Governor of Iowa. Today, TAI works to create and sustain a positive IT environment for economic growth and job creation through innovation, advocacy, and leadership. Its members include business, academia and government organizations. For more information, go to www.technologyiowa.org.
